Are you a single soldier or geographical bachelor / bachelorette? Well, there is a program just for you on Fort Hood called Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers, or BOSS. With a focus on recreation, community service and well being, BOSS brings together a community of single soldiers through good deeds and good times.
BOSS is designed to provide single soldiers with innovative recreation as well as a forum for quality of life issues between the single soldier, installation staff and command. This communication channel provides feedback opportunities for soldiers, enhances personal investment in the community and aids in retention. Through monthly installation meetings, unit BOSS representatives receive briefings on current events at Fort Hood, which they disseminate to their individual unit.
TRIPS
The Fort Hood BOSS program includes trip opportunities to places across the U.S. Examples of some of these trips include a cruise to Cancun, Mexico and skiing in Keystone, Colorado. These trips are generally taken quarterly, as training schedules and world events permit.
Another big trip for BOSS representatives is the annual Army wide BOSS conference and competition. This conference acts as a way for reps to show BOSS programs from installations around the country what Fort Hood BOSS is made of. Through displays, videos and literature, Fort Hood BOSS takes part in the conference and competition each year.
EVENTS
Throughout the year expect to see many events hosted by the Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers program. From formal dances and Valentine's Day parties to volunteering to build homes and help out at Special Olympics events, BOSS gets involved in the community.
