About Brooks Running Shoes
Brooks was established more than 100 years ago when the company was founded in 1914 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, by Morris Goldenberg. He chose the name “Brooks” based on the English transliteration of his wife’s last name – “Bruchs.” When it was founded, Brooks made women’s shoes (bathing shoes) before turning to sports shoes in the 1930s with shoes for baseball and football.
Brooks continued to expand the business to include more sports before radically reorganizing in 2001 to focus 100% on research and manufacturing of running shoes. After many changes of hands, Brooks is now owned by Berkshire Hathaway (the company of stock investment magnate Warren Buffett). Brooks’ slogan: RUN HAPPY – “Running must be fun” is short but meaningful. With this slogan, Brooks urges everyone to come running for a hobby, for fun, not because of achievements or medals whatsoever. Fast or slow doesn’t matter; running must be fun.
