Unless you go back far enough in your memory, you were probably taught how to braid hair in school. Braiding hair can be an art if done the right way, and it’s always a good skill to know and keep in our repertoire. But what happens when we want something fancier than just a regular ol’ braid? Well, French braided buns might be just the thing you’re looking for!
French braided buns are elegant and do not take as long to complete as full-blown hairstyles such as updos or wigs. This look is perfect for date night, the first day of classes, or any other time someone wants their tresses pulled together but didn’t have time for anything too extravagant. The braided bun is one of the most time-consuming hairstyles we’ve ever done, but we think it’s well worth it. It is most definitely a “true test” of braiding skills and patience, but once you master the technique, you can do it in under 5 minutes.
The French braided bun takes three strands from each side and braids them loosely (but not too loose) into a regular ribbon braid. Once you get to the end, secure them with an elastic band or hair tie, so they don’t unravel. Now take all other remaining hair and tie it into a simple ponytail holder at the top of your head.
1. French Braid on the Side with a Donut Bun
The donut bun is a unique twist on the traditional French braid. The donut bun starts as a French braid, with three strands on either side of the head. The last section of hair will be braided into a circular “donut shape” that weaves around those three strands, securing and creating an elegant, polished look.

2. Inverted and turned around
French braided buns are a new take on the classic French braid. The upside-down nature of these famous breakfast pastries makes them just as easy to make as the typical bread, but with super cute results. And what at first looks like an overwhelming number of steps is quite simple! All you need to do is remember FAST.

3. French braided buns with Loose braid
A loose braid is a loose hairstyle done by braiding your hair many times around the head, usually near the back of your head. The result is a messy yet intricate and attractive hairstyle with lots of volumes despite lacking structure and visible line. One can wear this style for casual wear like jeans or to dress up formalwear like prom or weddings. You may have seen people in television commercials who are dressed casually but still have their hair styled beautifully and messy due to their loose braids.

4. French braided with Double excitement
French braided buns are trendy in a variety of cultures and religions. There are so many different types of buns you can try regarding hairstyling. Braids can be as basic or as complicated as you like. These french braided buns look fantastic on any girl and look great in any season. They go well with laid-back moods or formal occasions, and they are perfect for long hair!

5. Minnie Mouse French braided
A double upside-down braid can be used to make Minnie Mouse ears. The procedure is the same as for a single braid. Maintaining the same size braids should be your primary goal. Hair extensions can make the bun if your hair isn’t long enough.

6. French braided Basket bun
This hairstyle may be difficult to achieve on your own because it needs some intricate braiding that is hidden from view. There’s no shame in seeking the expert help, especially if you’re planning a special occasion.

7. French braided with Loose classics
French braided buns are an adorable and versatile hairstyle that can be worn differently. The style is most commonly seen as a braided bun with three braids in the back of the head, but you can also wear it like a side bun or make bigger French braids for a fuller look. There may be many different types to pick from, and these are just a few to consider. So get your hair done with loose classics as soon as possible!

8. French Braided Bun Updo
This is an updo that is like a little bit of everything. It has braids and curls. This hairstyle can be a perfect choice for weddings or parties on a Saturday night. Try this style out because it is effortless and will have you looking gorgeous!

9. Small Bun with Zipper Plait
This bun hairstyle has a small braid, twist, or ponytail at the back of the head. The rest of the hair is then plaited in a French braid. To make it more interesting, you can braid the French plait into two sections; one side to be worn around the face on one side and the other to be worn behind your head.

10. Bow Braid with Elegance
The Elegant Bow Braid can be done with any hair type tied into a small bun on the back or sides of your head. It provides facial framing while adding flattering texture and shape to your face.

11. French Braid to Messy Bun
Over the years, the style of the messy bun has been timeless and remains popular today. Double up your strands in long braids and secure them at the top of your head with an elastic or scrunchie for those who want a more conservative look. For those determined to keep things wild, try adding some color between each braid with glitter or paint for that extra edge! You also can create different textures by using circular or oval puffies instead of puffiness from boiling water.

12. French Braid Double Buns
French Braid Double Buns are the perfect combination of two classic hairstyles: the french braid and the bun. They’re beautiful with short or long hair, giving you unique styling options that make your style stand out from the rest. They might look intimidating when you first try to do them, but they’re pretty easy once you know what to do.

13. Braid into Sock Bun
Even if you’ve never tried the sock bun look yet, we strongly advise you to do so immediately. However, if you have a sock on hand, try matching it with an upside-down braid. Wrap the donut in a few narrow braids if desired.

14. French braided buns and Flowers
Although it’s customary for an upside-down French braid to grow upwards, there’s no reason why it couldn’t branch out and be complemented by another braided feature.

15. Bun and Braid Deconstructed
A low-maintenance messy bun is perfect for the girl-on-the-go and will never go out of style. Of course, some sloppy buns can look a little too undone, especially if you’re going to work or somewhere more formal, but this unofficial updo is far too gorgeous and well-styled to be dismissed.

16. Formal Braided Bun Updo
An inverted down French braid can serve as the focal point of your updo or just as a compliment. The enormous, complicated bun takes center stage in this braided ‘do, while a bit of braid around the neck serves solely as an intriguing touch, paired with the glittery barrette.

17. Messy Flipped Braid and Bun
At first sight, this updo appears to have tiny plait, with only a few crisscrossed portions. However, a sloppy, loose braid remains. With a lazy ballerina bun to finish it off, you’ve got a cool summer look that you can wear anywhere.

18. Plait Upside-Down into Messy Bun
Fitness models were designed for upside-down braids. You can go to your spinning class–and maybe get away with dry washing now and then–with the mass of your loose hair sitting atop your head rather than on the bottom, where it may easily absorb sweat.

19. French braids Casual Bun With Highlights
French plaits have been worn for hundreds of years and are intrinsically lovely, youthful, and ageless. Consider integrating a strategically disheveled topknot to freshen up the look. Leave a few strands loose to avoid appearing put-together.

20. French braided with Exotic Twisted Knot
Don’t be scared to try an extremely high knot and a tight upside-down braid. Consider utilizing extensions (or your hair if you’re lucky!) to create a multitiered bun that’s sky-high.
