Because shoe sizes in each country have different numbers, buying and selling shoes from other countries or famous brands will make you quite bewildered. Each shoe has its own story about the standard of shoe size. The true story of the world’s most giant shoe and the world’s largest foot will make you feel quite interesting below.
The largest shoe in the world is a size 22.5 shoe, the “Shoes for Bigfoot” by G.H. Bass & Company, which is on display at the Shoe Hall of Fame in Covington, Kentucky.
World Biggest Shoes & Foot
Some people like to boast that they’re a size 8 or 15 and proud of it, but for most people, there is no need to wear a size so large, unless you’re trying to promote your shoe store or are just having fun with an oversized novelty prop. However, one man’s effort to create the world’s largest shoe may be more than just harmless bragging.
World’s Tallest Man’s Shoes Size 26 and 27
Igor Vovkovinskiy, a 32-year-old resident of Fresno, California, wears shoes sizes 26 and 27. He says he began growing his shoe collection as a boy when his mother passed down her old shoes to him as hand-me-downs. “She never really had any new shoes, just old ones my father gave her,” Vovkovinskiy said in a recent interview with WebProNews, “and she just handed them down to me.” Eventually, he acquired more than 200 pairs of shoes he found at thrift stores and garage sales.
Vovkovinskiy’s shoe collection is larger than most people’s wardrobes. He keeps most of his shoes in boxes stacked in the hallway of his house and in his bedroom closet. The rest he keeps under his bed or on shelves that line the walls of his living room. He has more than 100 pairs of high-top sneakers, boots, sandals and dress shoes from brands such as Timberland, Nike, Adidas and Reebok, among others. “I have a lot of shoes,” he says.
Guinness Book of World Records for The World Biggest Foot
The World’s Largest Foot is an unofficial record, or rather a category in the Guinness Book of Records. It is definitely not the official record for the biggest foot after all because there are at least two other people who have more than twelve toes. The World’s Largest Foot is the record holders’ feet.
The record was set by a Spanish man named Antonio Guerrero in 1975. He had fourteen toes, and his feet were between fifteen and sixteen inches wide (from the side to side). His left foot measures fifteen-and-one/eight inches long while his right foot is just over sixteen-and-one/eight inches long. Antonio has had his feet enlarged so that he could wear only size 50 shoes. Both of Antonio’s feet were measured in Madrid, on August 17th, 1975.
The World’s Largest Shoes belong to Robert Wadlow, a deceased man who was born with hypertrophy of the pituitary gland. He had a height of twenty-three feet six inches (with a shoe size of 44) and weighed 580 pounds (with a shoe size of 59); he wore size 42 shoes. The fact that Robert had to wear shoes that large is strange as it means he must have been quite massive, yet there is an explanation for this.
Giant Shoes of Marikina
There is a really interesting pair of shoes in Marikina, Philippines. It’s so big that people actually use it as a bus stop and you can even go inside and walk around. Made out of rubber, this pair of size-41+ shoes can be found on the intersection between Rizal Avenue and Quezon Avenue. Tarrosilio Salvador Jr., who was nicknamed Dodong, had these giant shoes made from leftover material from his shoe-making business during the 1990 years when he got sick from cancer. He wanted to fulfill his dream of building the world’s largest pair of shoes.
The shoe is 23 feet high and 9 feet wide, made entirely of PVC and synthetic rubber. It weighs 32 tons and the amount is equivalent to the weight of 10 fully-loaded dump trucks. It also doesn’t have any support from the ground since it was made on top of a cement platform it sits on so it could lean more towards its left direction.
It is open to everyone. Even if you are not a shoe lover, you would surely enjoy yourself inside the shoes. There are also restaurants inside that can be accessed through an entrance that leads into the shoe’s back.
So, if you are planning to visit Marikina City, just remember to include this giant pair of shoes in your itinerary. It’s definitely worth the visit!
Superga 2750 by Scad
The shoes are made from a special material that guarantees the patten won’t break down from wear and tear or soles that can easily disintegrate. Weighing almost one ton, they have a sole measuring over six meters long and cost an astounding $1 million.
According to Superga, these aluminum-alloy shoes should last 50 years without showing any sign of decay! What’s more is their Scad hub-less design means there is no possibility of slipping or back pain. In order to accomplish such a unique idea, designers needed 1,000 hours of working time and the use of 200 kilos worth of metal parts.
World’s largest sneaker collection by Jordy Geller
You may not realize it, but the world’s largest pair of shoes is in your closet and they’re probably yours. This isn’t some tall tale — we’re talking about the world record for the largest collection of shoes. All told, Jordy Geller has amassed a mammoth 5,767 pairs over the course of 40 years. That’s right – one pair every day for four decades!
Jordy gets his kicks from high end fashion labels like Prada, Gucci, Versace and Yves Saint Laurent that he picks up on trips to New York City or Milan where he was born before coming to Philadelphia in 1972. He buys them in pairs – one for him and one for his wife Shirley who also collects sneakers. “It’s part of my DNA. I am a dress shoe guy.” he explains. “I like to wear one black and one brown pair of shoes, never mind sneakers.”
He has always had a passion for luxury footwear. It started when he worked as an accountant at the local zoo where he noticed an ad for Allen Edmonds shoes in the Philadelphia Bulletin newspaper. He had never heard of the brand before, but wanted to try them out despite their high $75 price tag. After wearing them for three months, Jordy was hooked and became determined to own every pair that Allen Edmonds made – which was 487 at that time. “I thought well that’s a lot of shoes, but it’s no big deal. I’ll buy a pair a month and then I’ll have them all.” But after three years, Jordy realized he needed to step up his game. He wasn’t going to finish his collection until he was in his 80s, so he started ordering sneakers in bulk on the internet. “They had some good prices – some for 99 cents!”
Eventually he amassed more pairs of shoes than Allen Edmonds could even make for him, but that didn’t stop Jordy from collecting any less. With over 5,000 pairs now in his possession, Jordy is ready to retire. When he was young, Jordy used to go with his grandfather to the park on Sundays and then head over to the International Shoe Company on Market St. in Philadelphia where he would buy new shoes. He has now made that same trip many times with his wife. Today he fills the cart with different styles of sneakers, gloves, t-shirts and dresses before loading it into their white Lincoln Towncar for the 15 minute trip back home.
Jordy also enjoys collecting fashion accessories like watches, sunglasses and ties, but is still holding firm on his addiction to sneakers – even though he calls himself a fashion collector now. Jordy says “I really don’t know why I liked them so much; I just do. What’s so special about sneakers? I don’t know. It’s really hard for me to walk around without them.”
The Jordy Geller collection is now housed at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, with additional members of his family planning to donate their own personal sneakers to the collection in the future. But despite his love for style, Jordy has no plans to give up his sneaker obsession. “Maybe it’s because my parents were immigrants, but I am obsessed with shoes. I can’t go into a store without at least looking around. I always look at the shoes in the store. They’re like my little children.”
World’s largest pair of shoes in the world is in Myeongdong, South Korea! Size of 157 m2, 6 meters high and 4 meters long ! It opened on November 14, 2009 to celebrate Adidas’ 80th anniversary.
