At the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, she began her career practicing improv and sketch comedy. She portrayed April Ludgate on the NBC comedy series Parks and Recreation from 2009 to 2015 and also appeared on the FX drama series Legion (2017–2019). The second season of the HBO anthology series The White Lotus will feature her in 2022. She appears in the 2009 Sundance films Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Derrick Comedy’s Mystery Team.
